She is captain of the Rocky basketball team, and she brings lots of spirit to her teammates on the softball field. Lydia was recently named the Rocky Bayou Homecoming Queen. Lydia is a member of National Honor Society, Junior Classical League, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Government, Mu Alpha Theta mathematics honor society, and the academic team. lydia-turner headshotLydia has a deep passion for service. She is an after school tutor for underprivileged children, and has served on four mission trips during high school. She loves “Serve-a-lution” — a day when every Rocky student participates in community service yard work. After graduation, Lydia plans to continue her work with Team Effort, a mission organization that shares Christ’s love through construction and home improvement. Lydia’s faith is her cornerstone. At the end of her sophomore year, she was surprised and scared by a series of panic attacks, the worst of which caused her to pass out from lack of oxygen. She battled anxiety for months, until her focus turned to this scripture: “The Lord is my strength and my shield; in Him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to Him” (Psalm 28:7). God altered the direction of her life, and she is so grateful for the opportunity this award gives her to share her story with others.
