Lawrence Tynes
Lawrence Tynes, place kicker for the New York Giants is this year’s All Sports Association Professional athlete of the year. Lawrence, affectionately referred to as LT by his college coach Larry Blakeney was born in Scotland, but moved to the United States when he was 10 years old. His mother Margaret Ann is a native of Scotland and met her husband during his military tour of duty in that country. Lawrence spent a majority of his youth in Florida and considers his hometown as Milton, Florida where he was a standout kicker at Milton High School.
In his college career at Troy, Lawrence connected on 45 of 62 field goals (72.6%) and 127 of 131 extra points (96.9%) during his four-year career. His ‘45 FGs and 252 points topped both school records for kickers. He was an All-America selection of the American Football Coaches Association, The Sports Network and AP as a senior. He graduated from Troy State with a degree in Criminal Justice.
Lawrence’s Pro Career started playing NFL Europe in 2001 and for the Ottawa Renegades of the Canadian football League in 2003. In 2004 he was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs, replacing Morton Anderson as Chief’s kicker. In three seasons with Kansas City, Lawrence connected on 68 of 87 field goal attempts (78.2 percent), including six of 11 from 50 yards or more. He scored more than 100 points in each of the last three seasons, including a career-high 125 in 2005. Lawrence has also made 137 of 141 extra point tries. Signed by Giants in 2007, he kicked a 47 yard game winning field goal against Green Bay to win the NFC championship game and move the Giants into the Super Bowl.
