Glen Coffee
Glen Coffee, University of Alabama running back, is this year’s All Sports Association Collegiate Athlete of the Year. In 2008 Glen rushed for 1,383 yards, averaging 117 yards per game for the Crimson Tide. He scored 11 touchdowns and led Alabama to a 12-2 season and a final ranking of 6th in the country. Glen was named to the Second-Team All SEC, and was a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award. He stands in second place on Alabama’s single-season rushing charts and was named Alabama’s most valuable player in this, his junior year. “Glen Coffee has been one of the best people that we’ve had in the program relative to making good choices and decisions,” Alabama head coach Nick Saban said. “His work ethic, his commitment, his perseverance, all the intangible characteristics that you look for in a good competitor, he certainly has represented himself and his family in a very positive way. Glen credits his success this year to his religious faith. He spends much of his time mentoring to young people and is a popular speaker at numerous community functions including the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Glen, who graduated form from Fort Walton Beach High School in 2005, was a star running back for the Vikings, rushing for 1,886 yards, 350 yards receiving and 29 touchdowns as a senior. He led his team to the Class 4A District 2 title and a regional championship game appearance. Glen has announced his intentions to enter the NFL draft and will forgo his senior year at Alabama. Glen was unable to attend this year’s banquet due to his appearance in the 2009 National Football League Scouting Combine, the annual job fair for prospective new NFL players. Glen is the son of Glen and Doris Coffee of Fort Walton Beach. Glen’s brother Matthew, who recently signed with the University of South Carolina, accepted the award on Glen’s behalf.
